Saintpaulia, better known as Usambara violet, is a popular houseplant appreciated for its delicate, colorful blossoms and its compact form. Saintpaulia originates from the tropical rainforests of East Africa and is valued by us as an easy-care, flowering houseplant.

Some might still recognize the plant from their grandmother's times because Usambara violets are CULT! Characteristic of the Usambara violet are the velvety blossoms in shades of white, pink, violet, or blue, surrounded by dark green, glossy leaves.

Care tips

Half Shade
18-24 °C
Watering once a week
Fertilize every 4 weeks

The Usambara violet prefers a bright spot in the house, but not in direct sunlight. Water your Saintpaulia sparingly once a week, ensuring the soil is moist but not too wet. Don't panic if you forget to water once – the Saintpaulia can handle short dry periods well.

Withered flowers can be easily cut off, which promotes the growth of new flower buds. Fertilizing every 4 weeks during blooming is not necessary but gives the houseplant the necessary "power" to stay healthy.
